Yes, the world is in a phase of incessant changes in all aspects of life. Obviously, the abrupt changes in the educational systems during the pandemic period has brought forth new roles for the students, teachers, teaching methods and materials. No doubt, the future of the school system will be of unpremeditated, remarkable turnarounds in which teachers will have the pivotal role. Teacher Training institutes have to provide the catalytic platform for this developmental span of Teacher Education to strengthen the student-teacher duo. We, Government Institute of Teacher Education is on our way with the advancement in the field of Teacher Education under NCTE and Department of Education Kerala, especially in the post- pandemic scenario.

During the academic year 1987-88, under the profound leadership and unparalleled effort and foresight of Sri. CP Narayanan , the then MLA of Payyannur constituency , Govt. Teacher Training Institute Mathamangalam started operation. Initially from 1987 it was working with two batches of 40 students each in 4 rooms in Mathamangalam Govt High School, up to 2004. In 2000 NCTE, the Accrediting Agency of training centres visited the institution and found the infrastructure and other facilities inadequate and thereby reduced the seats from 40 to 22. When it was the stage where the approval of the institution will be taken away due to space constraints, a Development Committee was formed and intervened in the matter. Sri. M.P Damodaran was selected as the Chairman and Sri K. Abdullah as the Convenor of the Development Committee. As a result, MP funds were used in 2004 to build 2 rooms at the south end of the high school. The work was further expanded to include 5 more rooms in the building. It should be noted that the school received an internal support of the PTA in every respect.

After a period, as a result of the tireless efforts of the Development Committee 5.13 acres of land was found near the Mathamangalam Industrial estate and in 2006 Kannur District Panchayath purchased the land for TTI and registered it. In 2017-18, the then District Panchayat Vice President Smt.P.P. Divya sanctioned Rs 45 lakh for the construction of the building and the foundation stone of the construction work was laid and subsequently another 45 lakhs was sanctioned in 2019 by which a total of Rs 90 lakh was spent on the construction of the new campus.

The first phase of building construction was completed duing 2000-2021 in which the tremendous and selfless effort of HM Sri. Ranjith Kumar. A.V , PTA President Sri.K. Muraleedharan, the teaching& non- teaching staff at GITE mathamangalam , members of PTA, members of the Eramam- Kuttur Grama Panchayath, Payyannur Block and Kannur District Panchayath and each and every person who sought for the survival of this institution worth mentioning which had almost hit the target now. No matter how much praise or admiration is given to good natives and individuals, it is not enough.

Current Status : GITE Mathamangalam is equipped for accommodating a batch of 50 trainees per unit (class) with all the facilities as per the NCTE norms as follows:

Car parking, Principal’s room, Staffroom, Office room, 7 rooms including 2 Class rooms and 2 labs. 2 labs, stage and assembly hall is currently under construction.

It is expected that in future, by the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 the college will be retained to start a variety of other courses and the Infrastructure is being phased out in a long-term vision to fit for the future needs.
